On Sunday 26 February Herbert River Junior Cricket sent three teams to play against Home Hill in Under 10, Under 12 and Under 16 age groups. All 3 matches were hard fought and played in great spirit with Herbert River retaining the Cream of the Crop Turf Trophy.
In the Under 10 match Herbert River made a solid total of 138 runs with a number of battsmen contributing to this total. L. Buckman 19 runs, J. Butcher 17, P. Carrara 16, O. Rossiter 12.
Home Hill batted well but could only manage a total of 57 runs with their top battsman L. Cooper scoring 7 runs. Herbert River bowled and fielded enthusiastically with S. Devietti taking 3 wickets for 3 runs, J. Butcher 1 for 2, P. Carrara 1 for 3 and C. Thompson 1 for 6 with Oliver and Bailey Rossiter both taking a catch each chipping in to secure the convincing win. Man Of The Match went to Bailey Rossiter from Herbert River.
In the U/12 match Home Hill came away with a win against the hard fought Herbert River side. Herbert River posted 49 runs as a total to the Home Hill total of 81 runs. Herbert River batsmen E. Coco made a steady 20 runs ret, H. Girgenti 12 runs with D. Nielsen made 5 runs being the only resistance to Home Hills bowler J. Camer taking 5 wickets for 5 runs off 3 overs. Herbert Rivers bowling attack saw J. Exelby with 2 for 5 runs, C. Thompson 1 for 8 runs, H. Girgenti 1 for 3, H. Carrara 1 for 5 and E. Coco taking 1 for 12 with a catch who were supported by N. Hodgetts and D. Nielsen also taking a catch each all chipped in. Man Of The Match honours was awarded to E. Coco.
In the Under 16 match, Herbert River came away with a convincing victory 171 runs to Home Hills 139. Herbert River batsman C. Mendiolea opened the batting score with a 4 run hook shot off the first delivered ball which set the pace for the oncoming batsmen J. Grazioli making 68 runs, K. Vettoretto 25, J. Lahrs 20 and K. Phillips 16 also got amongst the runs. Home Hills U16 bowler L. Sunderland was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 39 off 8 overs. Tight bowling from Herbert Rivers’ J. Grazioli with 0 for 3 off 4 overs bowling 3 maidens put the pressure on the Home Hill team for the following bowlers to capture wickets. K. Phillips 2 for 15, W. Bosworth 2 for 17 and J. Petersen 2 for 11 ended Home Hills chances with 5 overs to spare. Man Of The Match was awarded to J. Grazioli, Herbert River and L. Sunderland from Home Hill.
This Saturday, 4th March is the Grand Final and Presentations. In the Colts division finals will be 1.Thunder V 2. Sixers and 3. Strikers V 4. Stars. Presentations will follow the finals at Butler Park from 11.30am. Parents, Grandparents, family members, friends and Life members are cordially invited to attend.
