Learning to understand Cricket Speak

DUCK: To be out batting without making a run. Easy enough but like in the wild there is a large variety of different ducks.

Gold Duck - Out first ball

(NB: Not out in most backyard rules).

Silver Duck - Out second ball.

Bronze Duck - Out Third ball.

Diamond Trick - Out without facing a ball. Run out non - strikers end.

Steven Carrara

Queensland Crickets North Queensland’s Volunteer of the Month for November is Steven Carrara from Herbert River Cricket Club.

Steve has been the Junior Vice-President of the lone junior cricket club in Ingham for a number of years now.                 Steve’s passion and dedication has seen Herbert River Cricket Club remain a fantastic environment for young cricketers and families.

Steve works across multiple fronts at the cricket club to ensure the club continues to operate and provide great experiences for kids. He recently took the time to complete his Representative Coaching Accreditation so he can better service his broad spectrum of players.

Steve also works tirelessly to ensure the facilities are up to scratch, and is also one of the key communicators for the club.

Steve was recently the driver of a hugely successful day for the club, working with Queensland Cricket Staff to host the first Cricket Blast School Cup in the region at the club grounds.                   Steve worked with Woolworths to provide free fruit and sausages for the 150 kids who took part on the day. Steve pitched in to help umpire on the day, and the fantastic experience offered has seen registrations rise in all age groups this season.

We’d like to offer our sincere thanks and congratulations to Steve, and look forward to seeing his great work continue in Ingham and across North Queensland.
